Tom is a new kazooist and experienced harmonica player that is having problems with the sound of his kazarp. He is getting a "popping" sound from the resonators and was wondering if the mouth hole size could be smaller to reduce the required volume of air required by the resonators.
After discussing this problem in detail with Tom I believe the cause of this problem is that he is naturally restricting his humming much as he would blowing air to the reeds of a harmonica. This would result in the most any style kazoo's sound being degraded and could be causing the popping sound he is hearing. With the dual resonator kazarp this is true times two. Since Tom just received his kazarp I decided that the best thing to do was have him return the kazarp and make him another one with a smaller diameter mouth hole to reduce the required volume of air from his mouth or offer him a full refund. Tom elected to have me make another kazarp which is the one seen/heard in this video.
With all of my kazoo designs the size of the mouth hole is somewhat limited in order to maintain quality of sound and after making a prototype kazarp for testing smaller size mouth holes I found I could only reduce the mouth hole in the kazarp by one bit size and maintain a quality sound. I as well reduced the diameter of the interior cross hole between the resonators. These two reductions reduced the necessary air pressure from his mouth to the resonator membranes and at the same time maintains quality of sound and modulation.
All special order instruments are accompanied by regular audio/video/image/narrative updates that allow the customer to watch their instrument(s) being made. This is a unique feature of the Great Aswego Kazoo Factory that gives customer an opportunity to join me in the workshop as I make their instrument.
